Seminar 28th September
“The Rising Fascist Attacks on Colleges-Campuses and Our Challenges."
Friends, the coming 28th of September is the birth anniversary of Shahid Bhagat Singh. Bhagat Singh is one of the revolutionaries who struggled lifelong against British imperialism, and happily gave his life for India’s freedom. Involved in India’s freedom struggle, he also endlessly fought against communal forces within the country. After so many years of his martyrdom, his thoughts and his struggle have become even more pertinent for us today.
Today, within India, under the leadership of the Sangh, the Hindu fascist movement has reached its zenith. Risen to power, by the backing of the dictatorial capitalist class, the Modi government is rapidly implementing policies in favour of capital. This process has incrementally effected the destruction and devastation of the ordinary labouring people. On the other hand, in order to obfuscate the struggle of the ordinary people against this loot and in order to divide the people, the poison of communal politics is being poured into society.
One form of this fascist attack is seen in colleges and campuses around the country for the past 3 years. IIT Madras, FTII, Hyderabad University, JNU, DU, Allahabad, BHU, etc. are examples of Sanghi attacks. To criticize the government, to discuss its policies, to organise seminars on various topics within the colleges and campuses is enough to be labelled as anti-national. The attack on the campuses are multifaceted. On the one hand with seat cut, budget cut, increment in fees, the government is snatching away the fundamental right to education of ordinary students. While on the other hand, there is an attempt at brainwashing students by shading the syllabus in the hues of communal politics. By placing persons who believe in this type of poisonous politics in the top positions in various institutions, the Modi government is forwarding this same process.
Those students and teachers who oppose and raise their voices against all this have had to face constant repression. By labeling these teachers and students as anti-national and anti-Hindu their repression is being justified. Today in front of us, students and youth, their lies a need to free education from the hold of capital and to answer these fascist attacks. The recent student movement has even taken up this challenge, but this movement has failed to acquire unity and solidarity on a national scale.
In the event,Parivartankami Chhatra Sangathan, while imbibing the insights of these student movements and hoping to start a student movement in the future is organizing a seminar in Delhi on the 28th of September, the birth anniversary of Bhagat Singh on the topic “The Rising Fascist Attacks on Colleges and Campuses and Our Challenges.”
Representatives of recent student movements around the country, along with various student organizations, students, teachers, journalists, intellectuals and progressive forces of the society are invited to this seminar.
